ADJACENT TO THE FESTIVAL we have developed an
connecting filmmakers, writers. composers and other artists to provide a creative environment for them to develop new work that supports independent film, exploring the ever changing production and distribution landscape.
In the past two years, PADIES has sucessfully hosted eleven artists, ranging from composers, musicians, painters and sculptures all of which have been inspired by the PADIES environment.
“Film is often referred to as a ‘cultural mirror’ of our society. It gives us a way to express our world-views and define us as people through our own unique ways of storytelling. We find ways to connect that go beyond the barriers of language and the politics of our time. We use these flickering images to create rich, vibrant and moving stories that offer us different points of view. These contrasting images can often help us better define the world we live in and ourselves. It is in the authenticity of our images that we connect with others in deeper and more meaningful ways. This festival is a celebration of such unions.
We also hope that instead of viewing films in isolation, we can look at them in connection to other art forms to help us redefine the possibilities of our own medium. It can also help us challenge the conventions of our medium and find creative ways of using the tools at our disposal. We can begin to think of ways of production that do not require huge expenses. We can create more with less.
We live in a world of complex, intersecting realities where conventional methods of creating, might not provide us with all answers. New times demand for newer ways of expression and these experiments are important for any art form to grow and flourish.”
